The Caffo family story begins on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in the late 19th century, where Giuseppe Caffo started distilling. His son Sebastiano continued the craft, founding Fratelli Caffo in 1915 — now Gruppo Caffo, a four-generation family operation based in Limbadi, Calabria, known best as the producer of Amaro del Capo, Italy's top-selling herbal liqueur. Their Amaretto is titled "Fratelli d'Italia" — Brothers of Italy — created as a tribute to Italian emigrants who carried a taste of home with them abroad. Unlike most amarettos, which use crushed apricot kernels, Caffo's is made from 100% estate-grown Sicilian almonds macerated in an herbal infusion, resulting in pure almond character: marzipan, vanilla, subtle black cherry, and baking spice, with a smooth, lingering finish. Rated 92 points by Wine Enthusiast.
Cocktail Suggestions: Amaretto Sour (amaretto, lemon juice, egg white, Angostura); Godfather (Scotch + amaretto); add a float to espresso or cappuccino; drizzle over vanilla ice cream; mix with orange juice for an easy aperitif
