Ciliegiolo — Italian for "cherry tree" — is a central Italian grape with deep roots in Tuscany's Maremma, where it prefers the coastal warmth and produces wines of striking fruit purity when handled well. This liter bottle comes from the same source as the Rosato and Sangiovese: Anna Maria Cruciata's Val di Toro estate in the coastal Maremma, certified organic since 2015. Spontaneously fermented in cement, unfiltered, and low in sulfite, this is natural wine in the most honest sense. Light purple in the glass, with a nose of floral herbs, red fruits, and a faint earthiness; medium-bodied on the palate with low to medium acidity, light tannins, and bright cherry and strawberry fruit on a short, clean finish. Best served with a slight chill. The 1-liter format makes it a natural for the dinner table.
