This amaro is a bittersweet distillation of 14 botanicals including cinchona, rhubarb root, spruce buds, elecampane root, and eucalyptus. They rest in non-GMO neutral grain spirit for two and a half weeks, are strained, and proofed down to 34% abv. They’re aged in Bourbon barrels in a two-stage Solera system that averages one year in age come bottling. It’s sweetened with a blend of organic dark clover honey and organic cane sugar and bottled. Delicious as neat with lemon peel and equally enticing in a Saw Tooth cocktail. Bittersweet and woodsy, with an herbal complexity that rewards a Manhattan-style riff or a slow sip neat with a lemon peel.
Patrick Miller is a former chef who spent 19 years in restaurant kitchens before founding Faccia Brutto, which means "ugly face" in Italian, in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, producing Italian-inspired organic spirits with old-world recipes and American ingredients.
Cocktail Suggestions: Neat over ice with a lemon peel twist; the Saw Tooth (Alpino, rye whiskey, lemon, honey); sub for Campari in an alpine Negroni; add a half-ounce to an Old Fashioned in place of bitters
