Aglianico is Campania's great red grape — sometimes called "the Barolo of the South" — a late-ripening, thick-skinned variety grown in the volcanic soils of the Campanian Apennines that produces wines of serious tannic structure, natural acidity, and considerable aging potential. Irpinia DOC, centered on Avellino province in the heart of Campania's wine country, is one of the key appellations for Aglianico — neighbor to the more famous Taurasi DOCG. Orneta's Camporeale expression delivers the grape's signature character: deep ruby, with aromas of black cherry, leather, dried herbs, and volcanic earth; a firm, structured palate with grippy tannins and bright acidity; and a long, savory finish. A wine that rewards decanting and benefits from food.
Food Pairings: Braised lamb shank, wild boar, beef brasato, pasta with meat ragù, aged Pecorino or Provolone del Monaco, game birds
