Pormenor Douro Tinto is a dry red wine that is medium-bodied and reveals aromas of fresh earth, green minerality, and a hint of wood. On the palate, it expresses strong minerality amid red and black fruit, with velvety tannins, and wet stone. The grapes fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness, in part with the stems. Maceration lasted 4 weeks, during and after fermentation, with light pumpovers to extract smooth, round tannins. The wine then aged for 20 months in used French oak barrels.
Food Pairing: braised meats, grilled lamb chops, roasted pork, steak, herb-roasted chicken, duck with savory spices, artisanal charcuterie boards.
Pormenor is spearheaded by owner and winemaker Pedro Coelho to render his wines in a different style of winemaking that eschews old traditions. Pormenor means "details," and expresses what Pedro wants missing from his wines: high alcohol, extraction, and new oak. He chooses to showcase freshness, retrained alcohol, and elegance. His vines range from 45 - 100 years old, and he only works with indigenous varietals.
