Founded in 1904, Maison Arthur Metz is one of Alsace's most historic wine houses — and by some accounts the region's first producer of Crémant d'Alsace. Operating from Marlenheim at the northern entrance to the Alsace Wine Route, Arthur Metz oversees more than 1,000 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards across the region, including 19 Grand Cru parcels. Their Crémant d'Alsace Brut is made by the traditional method, aged on lees for extended fine-bubble development. Pale yellow with greenish highlights, it opens with expressive floral aromas and notes of green apple, pear, and white peach, with a fresh, creamy palate and a clean, pleasant finish. Excellent at the aperitif, at the table, or wherever Champagne is called for but the budget calls for restraint.
Food Pairings: Oysters, smoked salmon, quiche Lorraine, tarte flambée, soft-ripened cheese, light seafood appetizers, fruit tarts
