Fratelli Oddero Barolo 1978

The Oddero family has been making wine in La Morra since the 1700s, releasing their first estate-bottled Barolo in 1878. The Fratelli Oddero label represents the pre-split era of the estate, when brothers Giacomo and Luigi worked together across one of Barolo's most impressive arrays of vineyard holdings — Brunate, Bussia, Villero, Vigna Rionda, and more. The 1978 vintage is now legendary: a cool, rain-drenched season capped by a glorious autumn produced wines of formidable concentration that spent decades yielding their tannins. Beautifully evolved and velvety now, with garnet color, rich aromas of leather, truffle, tobacco, and dark fruit — a classic Barolo of that generation at peak expression.
