Niepoort Ruby Port

Niepoort has been an independent family business since 1842, with lodges in the historic center of Vila Nova de Gaia. Their Ruby is the youthful, unaged-in-wood expression — the one that tastes of the fruit rather than of time. Dark red, with a fresh vibrant nose of black fruit that follows onto the palate alongside a mineral streak; a young wine with good extract, real balance, and — the house's own word — superb drinkability. No decanting required; serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.

Food pairing: Cheeses and chocolate desserts, especially a flourless chocolate cake or a wedge of Stilton. Also fine chilled as an aperitif.
