Weingut Josef Ehmoser Wagram Zweigelt

Josef Ehmoser took over the seventeen-hectare estate from his father in 1996 and farms deep loess soils that run twenty meters down before hitting marine sediment. No herbicides or pesticides for years, pheromone dispensers instead of moth sprays, grass grown between the rows, minimal tractor passes to keep the soil loose — certified sustainable in 2018 and fully organic from the 2023 vintage. The Zweigelt is matured in large wooden casks and comes out elegant and full of finesse rather than heavy, hand-harvested like everything here. The house philosophy — respect the environment, intervene only when necessary — reads as marketing until you taste how little has been imposed on the wine. Dark cherry, black pepper, a soft, supple structure.
