Christoph Hoch Kremstal Grüner Veltliner Orange is a gorgeous, funky, pristine, elegant, and unbelievable expression of Grüner. The grapes are harvested in different harvest years and months, yield a wine that has both youth, age, racy, shimmying acidity, and raw texture. The palate notes range from yellow apple to quince to peach to caramel.
The oldest wine is aged for three years and spends a full year on the skin, building oxidative, nutty characteristics; it comprises 20% of the vintage. Fifty-percent of the vintage that spent two weeks on the skins, and has two years of aging, the mellowed acidity still shining through. The youngest wine, the most recent vintage, spends five days of skin contact before pressing and fermentation; it comprises 30% of the blend, bringing youthful characteristics and structuring acidity. The palate will feel finicky, as it is suddenly sentient and cannot decide which notes to showcase. If you love skin contact wine and want to experience a nuanced journey, then give Hoch's Orange a whirl!
Food Pairing: Popcorn dusted withl fleur de sel natural yeast, Asian chicken dishes, shellfish, crab, lobster, crunchy and bitter greens, roasted root vegetables.
