Vernaccia di San Gimignano holds the distinction of being Italy's first-ever DOC (1966), and Geografico's Borgo alla Terra is a reliable, textbook expression of Vernaccia. Sourced from sandy, Pliocene-era soils in the commune of San Gimignano northwest of Siena, the wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel to preserve varietal purity. Pale golden yellow in the glass, it opens with broom, white fruit, and mineral hints — flint and saffron — with a fresh, fruity palate and that classic slightly bitter, almond note on the finish that distinguishes Vernaccia from any other Tuscan white.
